OUR STORY
As a young South African boy I grew up in a proud braai culture. My parents sold braai wood for many years and I was a part of that. Every Saturday night was braai night. No special occasion was needed to light a fire, but in true South African style if there was a rugby match on we meant business.
A passion that was handed down from one generation to the next made me a VIP to invite to any braai. Not just because of my inherited braaimaster skills, but I would arrive with a few bags of wood.
In my early twenties I had the idea of adding fun and convenience to the sacred art of braai. I created the first ever braai belt. It was a makeshift piece of equipment that got the job done. It was definitely function over aesthetics. The first prototype was a cheap belt with a bottle opener buckle, a few beer holders and a 3 spice rack my grandmother sewed together for me. Needless to say I meant business when I arrived at a braai. The host knew who was in charge and promptly handed over the ceremonial braai tongs.
As with all of us, life happened and many other things took priority. Going through the different life stages priorities ranged from partying in my 20s, to a focus on fitness (completing several Ironman competitions) in my 30s, to an emphasis on my career attempting to climb the corporate ladder, and more importantly starting a family. All this while serving on the front lines as a police reservist for the past 17 years.
Now in my 40s, after much reflection over the years I wanted to revisit a passion which has always run in my blood...braai. Harnessing all this life experience I decided to take another stab at the braai belt.
Through all my years in the police service, one thing I learned is that the quality of your gear can mean the difference between life and death. Why should braaing be any different?
The BraaiTac Belt is inspired by top quality tactical gear I have used in the field. The strength and ruggedness of the kit is balanced with convenience. This ensures you are setup for success and no one will question who is in charge at the braai.
